Nowadays, there are so many different dog breeds out there, that it can be hard to know which pooch is from who and how you can tell the difference. Many people are opting to get smaller dog breeds because they are much easier to manage with space, food and going to specific places, such as the park or a relatives house. That being said, you might find yourself wondering what the difference is with a cavapoo and cavoodle.

Both a cavapoo and cavoodle are the same crossbreed dog of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodles. They are also known as the cavadoodle, but the name “cavapoo” is more widely known. Because they are not a purebred, these pups were never given one specific name to go by.

Although they have the same name, cavapoos are becoming very popular in many families due to their captivating personalities. They are very energetic and love to play, be around many people and are easily trainable due to their intelligence. Not only this, but if you are a person who loves to cuddle with your animals, they are the dog’s to get the job done, so you both will benefit from this factor!

Is a Cavapoo Calmer Than a Cockapoo?

Both the cavapoo and cockapoo, which is a crossbreed between the Poodle and the Cocker Spaniel, have excellent temperaments. Because they come from two different types of parents, their temperaments may vary, but is one more calm than the other? It entirely depends on what you are looking for in a dog.

Cavapoodles are more needier and less energetic than cockapoos, so they will fit your lifestyle more if you are less active whereas cockapoos will fit your lifestyle more if you are away from home more. Let’s go through both of their personalities together and you can decide on your own.

To Be Yappy Or Not To Be Yappy

Cavapoos do not bark excessively like a lot of other small dogs do, but if there is a specific circumstance that they feel they need to bark about, then they will do so. If you have another family member or stranger, such as the maintenance person, visiting your home, they will bark and let it be known that they are stranger danger.

Not only this, but cavapoos will bark a lot if they are left in their home’s by themselves all day, especially if it is more than 5 hours, which leads me to my next point.

Keeping Your Dog Home Alone

Because cavapoos are very social animals, they do not like being left home alone for very long. If you’re going to be gone anywhere between 8 to 10 hours, then you might be coming home to a destroyed house. It would be best to not be gone for more than 5 hours.

Ensuring that they are not bored by providing enough toys and stimulation, have enough room to roam around and giving plenty of water and food throughout the day will be the best option for your cavoodle. If you have a space where they can roam around and not destroy your furniture or belongings, this would be the best option for them.

Some things you may see if a cavapoo is left home alone for too long are:

  • Destroyed furniture
  • Pee or poop all over the place
  • Your shoes or clothes may be destroyed or chewed in
  • A bunch of holes dug in your backyard

How To Help My Cavapoo To Not Destroy My Home

Since you may be considering getting a cavoodle, you do not want your dog to be destroying your belongings, so finding an alternative to this madness is the best way to help your canine out. The last thing you want to do is come home to feathers or polyester stuffing being all over your floor!

  • Give your pooch plenty of exercise throughout the day
  • Limiting their space with a playpen or dog-proofed area
  • Address if they have separation anxiety
  • Be patient with yourself and your dog
  • Wear your dog out mentally and physically before leaving
  • Gradually increase the length of time your dog is left alone
  • Ask others for help
  • Get a dog trainer involved

Washing My Cavoodle

Cavapoos coats often have things sticking on them that do not come off, kind of like velcro. Maintaining good hygiene and grooming for this breed is a must. However, depending on what you do with your pup and the type of coat they have, you can bathe them anywhere between 1 to 2 times a month or just a few times per year.

It is also important to not wash puppies before they are 8 weeks old and it is recommended that they get a light sponge bath to spot clean off in dirty areas. Here are some ways that will determine how many times they will need a bath.

  • Coat length — which is typically medium or long
  • Fur thickness — some have a double layer whereas others do not
  • The type of lifestyle you live — whether you are indoors or outdoors more often
  • The type of active lifestyle you live — whether you like to go on long walks on the concrete or take your dog on nature trails

Grooming A Cavapoo — Home Style

Many people might not know how to properly groom their animal which leaves the fur pretty nappy at times, especially if you are outdoors a lot with your dog. Here are some ways you can ensure your cavoodle will be well groomed and taken care of:

  • Make sure they are calm and relaxed before you groom them
  • Invest in a two-sided brush (pin & bristle)
  • Brush their coat before and after their bath
  • Check the inside of the ears to ensure nothing is overgrown or knotted hairs are in there in order to ensure they do not get an ear infection
  • Give them a pedicure. Here is a great way to properly trim your dog’s nails
  • Wipe any brown tear stains on the eyes

Do They Like Water?

One of the biggest questions asked on cavoodles is if they like to swim. With their coats having good insulation thanks to their Poodle parents, you might find them absolutely loving the water. On the contrary, some cavapoos hate the water with a huge passion and may not do so well. However, the majority of this breed likes it for at least a little while until they do not want to tolerate it anymore.

Why Do Cavapoos Cost So Much?

Smaller dogs produce anywhere between 1-4 babies whereas larger dogs, such as the Great Dane, can have 8-10+ puppies in one litter. Since cavoodles are considered a designer breed, this means their parents do not produce as many puppies as a larger dog does, hence price being more than most people are wanting to pay.

Not only that, but these pooches are also one of the most popular breeds in the world, especially in the UK as they are in the top 20 dog breeds of 2020. How much are they, you might ask? Depending on the breeder, you can get one of these beautiful mix breeds anywhere between $2500 to $5000.

Final Thought

For a quick recap, although there is no definite difference between a cavapoo and cavoodle due to them being the same name, rest assured they are going to make an excellent addition for your family for years to come.
